Ingredients

Fruit

  • 2 large Honeycrisp apples or apples of your choice (cored and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds)

Date Caramel Sauce

  • Date caramel sauce (homemade or store-bought, quantity enough to spread over 2 apples worth of slices)

Toppings

  • 1/2 cup crushed walnuts
  • 1/2 cup crushed pistachios
  • 1/2 cup bittersweet chocolate chips (vegan chocolate chips can be used), melted

Instructions

  1. Make the date caramel sauce and prepare baking sheet. Begin by preparing the date caramel sauce according to your recipe or use a store-bought version. Line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Prepare the apples. Core the apples thoroughly using an apple corer, then slice each apple into 1/4-inch thin rounds. Arrange these slices evenly on the lined baking sheet, ensuring they are spread out without overlapping.
  3. Add the toppings. Evenly spread the prepared date caramel sauce over each apple slice. Next, sprinkle crushed walnuts and pistachios over the caramel-covered slices. Finally, drizzle the melted bittersweet chocolate over the top of the nutty apple slices.
  4. Chill and serve. Place the baking sheet in the freezer for 10 to 15 minutes, allowing the chocolate to set properly. Once set, transfer the apple slices carefully into a tightly sealed container and store them in the refrigerator until ready to serve. Enjoy chilled for best taste and texture.

Notes

  • You can use any apple variety you prefer, though crisp, tart apples like Honeycrisp or Granny Smith pair well with sweet caramel.
  • If making your own date caramel sauce, soak dates in warm water before blending for a smooth texture.
  • These apple slices are best enjoyed within 2-3 days when stored properly in the fridge.
  • For a nut-free version, omit walnuts and pistachios or substitute with seeds like pumpkin or sunflower.
  • Use vegan chocolate chips to make this recipe dairy-free and vegan friendly.
