Ingredients

Marinade and Shrimp

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons BBQ seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt (optional, if needed)
  • 1 pound jumbo shrimp, peeled and deveined

For Grilling

  • 4 to 6 wooden skewers, soaked in water for at least 10 minutes
  • Avocado oil, as needed for greasing grill grates

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Shrimp: In a large bowl, combine olive oil, BBQ seasoning, and salt (if using). Toss the peeled and deveined jumbo shrimp in the mixture, ensuring they are evenly coated. Cover the bowl and refrigerate the shrimp to marinate for at least 15 minutes, and up to 1 hour for deeper flavor.
  2. Prepare the Skewers: Thread the marinated shrimp onto the soaked wooden skewers carefully. Thread both the top and bottom ends of each shrimp to secure them well and prevent slipping during grilling. Set the skewers aside while you prepare the grill.
  3. Preheat the Grill or Grill Pan: For a grill pan, lightly grease it with a high-heat oil such as avocado oil and preheat over medium heat for about 3 minutes. If using a gas grill, preheat it to medium heat, approximately 350°F (175°C), with the lid open.
  4. Grill the Shrimp: Place the shrimp skewers on the preheated grill or grill pan. Cook the shrimp for 2 to 3 minutes on each side until they are opaque and cooked through. Rotate carefully to avoid dislodging the shrimp. The shrimp should be juicy with a slight char from the grill.
  5. Serve: Remove the shrimp from the grill and carefully slide them off the skewers. Serve immediately while hot, paired with your favorite sides or dipping sauces.

Notes

  • Be sure to soak wooden skewers in water for at least 10 minutes to prevent them from burning on the grill.
  • Adjust salt according to taste since BBQ seasoning might already contain salt.
  • Watch the shrimp closely while grilling as they cook quickly and can become rubbery if overcooked.
  • For added flavor, consider brushing shrimp with additional BBQ sauce during the last minute of grilling.
